The Society for Art and Science - Tohoku Section, will hold a general competition for admiring excellent works and technologies in media arts.
The Society for Art and Science - Tohoku Section calls for interactive and non-interactive works and digital
technologies in media arts. The works or their demonstration videos (explanation by short movies) are acceptable to apply the competition.
For interactive works and digital technologies, it is advisable to give a presentation and demonstrate your works in the workshop.
Some of the possible works and technologies are shown below, while they are not just limited to the following:
Interactive contents and interactive systems: game, media art, VR/MR content, robot, interactive installation, physical computing and web design
Still images and movie contents created using digital technologies: computer graphics, perspective drawing, design drawing, rendering, movie installation, animation, video, projection mapping
Digital technologies and tools that support work creation and whose validity is confirmed through viewing: CG, CAD, CV, VFX,
image/visual processing, communication technology, sensor technology, sound technology, HI/VR device, real-world interface, physical computation,
simulation technology, visualization technology, display technology
(Note: If you will not give a presentation or demonstrate your works, you had better show the appeal points of your works through demonstration videos.)
1. Anybody can apply for this competition. Residence, occupation and affiliation do not matter.
2. You may send one or more works.
3. Apply for the competition from the link described below.
4. Before you apply for the competition, confirm that your works do not infringe copyright or any other rights;
otherwise, get the permission for the art images, movies, pictures or music used in your works.
5. If third parties claim violation of the rights or any damages, the applicants shall deal with them on their own responsibility and cost.
The committee of the competition will assume no responsibility for them.
6. The committee may inquire about contents for exhibition.
7. If your work is applied to the following cases, send the demonstration video of your work:
- The size of your work is so large, such as a large-scale installation, and it seems to be difficult to exhibit it, since a special
lighting environment is required or a lot of staffs are required to set your works at the venue.
- Your work may make the venue dirty or damage it
.
8. If your works produce a quite large sound, let us know it in advance.
9. If the venue manager or audience complains or claims any damages, the applicants shall deal
with them on their own responsibility and cost. The committee of the competition will assume no responsibility for them.
10. No network environment is provided in the exhibition gallery.

1.Non-interactive works will be exhibited through the projection equipment.
Submissions will be accepted from
May 7, 2018 (Mon.) to June 15, 2018 (Fri.).
1. The submitted works (electronic files) will not be returned in principle. Be sure to make backup copies of the works.
If you bring your works or equipment to the venue, remove them on your own responsibility. Do not leave any waste materials at the venue.
[Note] Please follow the following regulations on videos and
still images.
The total file size must be less than 100MB. In the case of still images, the format must be JPEG,
GIF, PNG or TGA, and must be within 1920 x 1080 pixels. In the case of video, it must be in a format
that can be played on VLC media player, and the playing time should not exceed 3 minutes.
In addition, in the case of video, please display the registration ID (obtained in

2.For interactive works and digital technologies, a table (in width about 80cm, in depth about 80cm) and electrical outlets will be prepared at the exhibition gallery.
The applicants may use your own computers. If you need a wider space, let us know it through
Submission Site
when you apply for the competition.

Deadline for uploading work is June 15, 2018 (Fri.).
Exhibition will be held on July 21, 2018 (Sat.)

How to manage works submitted
2. The committee shall not be responsible for any accidents (damages or loss) occurred during transportation of the works or application forms.
If necessary, take out insurance or take necessary actions.
3. The committee may release the prize-winning works in public at several events or for the promotion of the competition. The committee will not claim any other right.
4. If the committee makes a copy of or edits submitted works due to judgment or the reasons described in item 3 above, the management of the copies will be left up to the committee.
1. Judging: The committee will judge the works impartially and severely at the exhibition gallery.
Before exhibition, the committee may have the elimination and request submission of videos or some other materials to explain your interactive works.
2. Prizes: "Most Excellence Prize" and "Excellence Prize" will be awarded to excellent works and technologies.
Special prize, such as "Special Jury Prize", might also be given.
3. Announcement of winners: The winners will be announced in the awarding ceremony to close the exhibition. After the workshop event,
they will be exhibited on the website of Art & Technology Tohoku 2018.
