■ OVERVIEW

The Society for Art and Science Tohoku Branch will hold a general competition, in which excellent works and assistant technologies for art work creation will be awarded. Details are as follows:

■ ENTRIES

Competition entries should be interactive and non-interactive works and digital technologies in media arts. The works or their demonstration videos (explained by short movies) are acceptable. Interactive works and digital technologies are recommended to give presentation or demonstration in the workshop. Some of the possible works and technologies are presented below, while the entries are not just limited to the examples.

◆Interactive works:

 Interactive contents and interactive systems: games, media arts, VR/MR contents, robots, interactive installations, physical computing, Web designs, ...

◆Non-interactive works:

 Still images and movie contents created using digital technologies: computer graphics, perspective drawings, design drawings, rendering, movie installations, animations, videos, projection mappings, ...

◆Digital technology:

 Digital technologies and tools that support creation of works and whose validity is confirmed through viewing: CG, CAD, CV, VFX, image/movie processing, communication technologies, sensor technologies, sound technologies, HI/VR devices, real-world interface, physical computation, simulation technologies, visualization technologies, display technologies, ...

■ APPLICATION PROCEDURE

◆How to apply for the competition

Upload the files of still images or movies on your servers and let us know their URLs. Send the thumbnails of your art work contents.

  1. Anybody can apply for this competition. Residence, occupation and affiliation do not matter.
  2. You may send one or more works.
  3. Apply for the competition from the link described below.
  4. Before you apply for the competition, confirm that your works do not infringe copyrights or any other rights; otherwise, get the permission for the art images, movies, photographs or music used in your works.
  5. If third parties claim violation of the rights or any damages, the applicants shall deal with them on their own responsibility and cost. The committee of the competition will assume no responsibility for them.

Non-interactive works (still images)
 Submit the URLs for thumbnails and still images

Non-interactive works (movies)
 Submit the URLs for thumbnails and movies.
 Note: The first 3 minutes of the movies will be judged.

Interactive works
 Submit the URLs for thumbnails and movies.
 Note: An entry must include the description and demonstration of your work.
 The first 5 minutes of the movies will be judged.

Digital technologies
 Submit the URLs for thumbnails and movies.
 Note: An entry must include the description and demonstration of your work.
 The first 5 minutes of the movies will be judged.

※The submitted thumbnails or URLs will be used as the links to the works exhibited in the Art & Technology Tohoku 2021 portal site.
※The thumbnails must be JPG files within 1280 (width) x 720 (height). (The image size might be changed due to some reasons.)

◆Exhibition

The competition will be held online this year for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) countermeasures. The exhibition will also be held on the Internet. The submitted thumbnails and links are used for presenting all the art works applied for this competition at the Art & Technology Tohoku 2021 portal site.

◆Schedule

COVID-19 In consideration of the situation of infection expansion, we have decided to extend application reception and non-interactive contents upload deadline. Along with that, the period of contents release etc. will be postponed.
The new schedule is as follows.

Submissions will be accepted from May 21 (Fri.) to July 9 (Fri.) >>September 10 (Fri.) , 2021.
The deadline for uploading non-interactive works is July 9 (Fri.) >>September 10 (Fri.) , 2021.
The committee will have the preliminary if we have a large number of entries, from July 10 (Sat.) to July 31 (Sat.) >>September 11 (Sat.) to September 30(Thu.), 2021.
The prize-winning works will be exhibited from August 1 (Sun.) to August 31 (Tue.) >>October 1 (Fri.) to October 31 (Sun.), 2021.
new!The movie of the winner announcement will be released on August 16 (Mon.) >>October 18(Mon.) >>October 22(Fri.) , 2021.
#This will be postponed due to the influence of the vaccination for COVID-19.

■ JUDGMENT AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS

  1. Judgment: The committee will view all the competition entries and judge them strictly.
    If we have a large number of entries, we may have the preliminary.
  2. Prizes: "Most Excellence Prize" and "Excellence Prize" will be awarded to excellent works and technologies. Special prizes such as "Special judging prize" might also be given.
  3. Announcement: The committee is now deciding how to announce the winners. We will let you know it at this Web site as soon as it is decided.
